Medium White Sauce

by Sauces & Dressings

I found this recipe at Mother’s house. It had been clipped from a  box of corn starch called “CREAM Corn Starch.” I’ve never heard of it. Argo corn starch offers a  very similar method.

Ingredients

1 1/2 T butter
1 T corn starch
1 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Directions

Melt butter in saucepan. Blend in corn starch, salt and pepper. Gradually whisk in milk. Bring to a gentle simmer stirring constantly. Continue for two minutes. Makes about 1 cup of white sauce.  CREAM Corn Starch recommends serving over “2 cups of drained, cooked, or canned vegetables, diced meat, flaked fish, or 4 hard-cooked sliced eggs.” Serves four.
