I’ve done this with rootbeer and with ginger ale. We like the ginger ale better. We used it for fried green tomatoes and for frying up cod. Very good. I’m sure cola would work too.

Ingredients

1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/8 cup cornstarch
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup cold carbonated soft drink (e.g. club soda or ginger ale)
Optional: spices like paprika, garlic powder, or cayenne

Instructions

Combine dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Add carbonated beverage. I’ve done this with rootbeer and with ginger ale. I like the ginger ale better. Of course, if you have netiher and DO have a beer, the beer will work just fine. We  use this for fried green tomatoes and for frying up cod for tacos.
